About eWomen SL

Our Story

eWomen began as a humble waste collection initiative in Makeni City, born from the passion and resilience of its founder, Kisimi Kayleemasa Kamara. After spending 20 years in Europe—studying and working in the field of Software Engineering—Kisimi returned to Sierra Leone with a mission: to solve real problems affecting people, the environment, and communities. While many doubted his unconventional return to waste collection, Kisimi remained focused on innovation, turning “trash into money” by transforming plastic into bricks, agricultural waste into charcoal, and kitchen scraps into organic manure.

It was women who first embraced his vision—supporting his early experiments and validating his purpose. In honor of their belief, he named the organization eWomen. What began with a $5,000 grant from UNDP has now evolved into one of Sierra Leone’s fastest-growing innovation hubs. With continued support from UNDP, the EU, and the World Bank (SLEDP), eWomen now drives entrepreneurship, sustainable innovation, and software development to empower startups and communities nationwide.
